- Select type of seed from the sprouting chart.
- Place recommended amount of seeds in a glass jar and cover jar with mesh screen and a rubber band.
- Fill jar with water
- Soak seeds for suggested time. (many are fine over night)
- Drain seeds then fill with water and rinse again.
- Put the jar at a 45º angle with good air flow.
- Continue to rinse at least 2ce a day until sprouts are desired length - most water sprouts are better with short sprouts, except alfalfa.
- Best consumed within a couple of days of refrigeration.
- It helps to have in mind when & how you're going to use them.
I use black hole-less potting trays. Sprouted greens take longer.
Sunflower Greens: greens grown in trays or pots. These shoots are full of phytonutrients, protein, enzymes, vitamins and minerals. Cut and toss in salads, nori rolls, smoothies, wraps, sauces, vegetable pates, open sandwiches, & as garnishes. Ready when 2 ½ " high. Soak 2/3 cup seeds.
Snow Pea Shoots: grown in trays, pots or punnets, ready to cut Snow Pea shoots are dark green, with a fresh raw pea flavour. Highly nutritious and deservedly very popular, these are super in salads, nori rolls and stir-fries. ready when approx 6 - 7 " tall.
Keep seeds where you see them - mine are by the sink. No need for a dark place.
The amount of seed will vary according to how much you require. I find little & often is better for water sprouts, and potting trays for greens, which last us 7 - 10 days. Water greens daily.
Rinse other sprouts at least twice a day.
